Official: Microsoft Have Bought Skype for $8.5 billion

Yep! It's official, the giant company that only just merged with mobile phone company Nokia, have completed the acquisition of VOIP company Skype for $8.5 billion. Xbox and Kinect support along with Windows Phone support are lightly mentioned in the announcement -- both the gaming and mobile aspects being most likely the key incentives for Microsoft to acquire Skype. Importantly, this purchase will not, according to sources, affect Skypers outside of the Microsoft ecosystem. Steve Ballmer's team promises to continue "to invest in and support Skype clients on non-Microsoft platforms." More details to follow...
